Volunteers from Glasgow's Sikh community deliver pizzas to hospitals across city to thank frontline NHS staff

Glasgow's Sikh community has pulled together to do their bit to help frontline NHS staff amid the coronavirus crisis by delivering freshly made pizzas to hospitals across the city.

Volunteers from Central Gurdwara Sikh temple in the west end of the city have joined forces to spend their spare time cooking the pizzas, which have been delivered as a small thank you from the Sikh community to hard-working NHS staff.

The volunteers at the temple on Berkeley Street - the largest place of worship in Scotland - have visited Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow's Royal Hospital for Children, the Royal Infirmary, Stobhill Hospital, Gartnavel General and Royal Alexandria Hospital in Paisley.

And people from the The Gurdwara, which serves as the hub of the Scottish Sikh community, have also visited care homes in Glasgow to deliver their pizzas.

The news comes after Celtic announced the launch of a new feeding project for NHS frontline staff in partnership with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and Cathedral House.

As part of their Football For Good Fund, Celtic FC Foundation will from Monday (April 13) deliver 100 hot prepared meals to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary to feed NHSGGC staff across all roles and wards every day.

An initial £10,000 from the Football for Good Fund has been invested into the support project, which will take place every weekday, from 6-8pm.
