Jeff Rockow, a longtime Camp Mystic parent, has traded his chef’s apron for a volunteer badge as he helps feed first responders after deadly Texas floods.
The 53-year-old from Dallas, whose daughters Sage, 16, and Violet, 13, left the Hill Country camp just a week before the disaster, said the experience hit close to home.
“They had a rough day,” he said during a break from assembling meals at a Kerrville church. “They could have been there... Oh gosh, that could have been my kids.”
Despite his daughters staying in cabins near the river, Rockow admitted he never worried about flood risks. Now, he’s just thankful they’re safe and praying for those still waiting for news.
