Voluntary group from West Lothian giving out free kits for locals to grow vegetables at home this weekend

A voluntary group will be handing out free kit this weekend in West Lothian for people to grow their own vegetables.

The starter packs contain everything required to grow vegetables at home, with information and support offered too.

Linlithgow Farmily are a voluntary organisation dedicated to helping local people grow their own produce at home.

They set up in 2020 in response to the coronavirus pandemic and the overwhelming demand for produce.

The group support and enable people across the local area to grow and create their own mini-farms at home and in shared community spaces, through the hands-on process of learning and trying.

A spokesperson explained on their website: “We encourage proactive support between members, by sharing plants, equipment, seeds, advice and encouragement, while promoting environmental sustainability, self-sufficiency and community ownership.

“Our supportive micro-farming community welcomes everyone, prioritises wellbeing and positive mental health. We champion the spirit of have-a-go, make-do-and-mend, get-stuck-in and do-it-yourself.”

The team will be out in Linlithgow at The Vennel on the High Street this Saturday between 10am and 3pm looking to meet new people and hand out the free starter packs,
