Volkswagen Golf drivers be warned... thieves are after your car

Volkswagen Golf drivers are being warned to step up security around their cars following a spate of thefts near Stockport.

In the last week, there have been a number of burglaries and attempted burglaries in Disley, Cheshire, at homes where there was a VW Golf on the driveway.

Police believe thieves could be purposely targeting the German-designed cars.

According to Disley Police, a VW Golf was stolen from the Bollington area on Sunday.

Less than 48 hours later - overnight Monday into Tuesday - another was taken from an address on The Ridgeway in Disley.

Officers have issued several warnings to residents who have VW Golfs, urging them to be extra vigilant.

On Thursday night they posted another warning, this time advising those with the cars to review their home security.

It read: "Just to reiterate - we have seen a recent pattern of suspicious activity, attempt burglaries and burglaries at addresses with a VW Golf on the drive.

"If you have a Golf, please review your home security, secure your driveway if possible. Check your CCTV and security lights work."

It is understood high-vis patrols have been stepped up in the area and enquiries are continuing.

Anyone who sees anything suspicious is urged to report it to police as soon as possible.
