'Volatile' man seen in Weston-super-Mare town centre with crossbow after biting man outside bar

A "volatile" man who assaulted someone outside a bar was later seen armed with a crossbow.

Dean Whitehead became involved in an altercation outside Skinny Dippers in Weston-super-Mare last June.

After assaulting Jerome Kendall, Whitehead was seen in the town centre with the loaded weapon, Bristol Crown Court heard today (March 25).

The 32-year-old, of Longston Grove Road in Weston-super-Mare, pleaded guilty to assault and possession of a weapon.

He also admitted possessing a knife, supplying cocaine to an undercover police officer and possessing a knuckle duster between June and August last year.

Judge Julian Lambert jailed him for 40 months.

He told Whitehead: "There is a lot of disorder in your record.

"You have a highly volatile disposition and you are prone to fly off the handle."

Gregory Gordon, prosecuting, said Whitehead bit Mr Kendall on his shoulder outside Skinny Dippers and was later captured on CCTV with a crossbow tucked in his jacket.

The court heard how, later, Whitehead was seen armed with a blade in the Grove Park area.

Derek Perry, defending, said his client had come in at the end of an altercation outside the bar.

He said Whitehead looked upon the knuckle duster simply as an "antique" and his drug dealing was not to fund high living.

Mr Perry told the court: "He was not living in a pseudo mansion in Weston-super-Mare.

"It was a small, compact flat."
