Voice of the People: Hancock is the last person we need running a complex vaccine roll out

At last, some real hope of a Covid-19 vaccine is in sight.

Thanks to the superhuman efforts of scientists who have developed the jab in record time, it is ready to roll out.

If the NHS plans go to schedule, everyone who wants it should have a needle in their arm by Easter.

There is finally a glint of a return to something approaching near normal.

But a vaccine is not a vaccination.

Hope is finally in sight, but distributing it is going to be a huge task (Reuters)

The mammoth achievement of producing a jab now has to be matched by another huge endeavour – distributing it to the population.

For those managing the task, it looks like a mission impossible.

It will be, Health Secretary Matt Hancock says, the “biggest civilian project in history”.

Pity, then, that he’s the one in charge.

With a litany of blunders in his wake, hapless Hancock is the last person we need in command of such a complex national emergency operation.

Doctors, nurses, practice managers and staff are facing up to the mission with fortitude, determination and the certainty of sacrifice.

Heroes led by an ass.

Fortunately, the Army will be there to provide organisational support.

It will be tough and for all our sakes, we wish them every success.
