Voice of the Mirror: Victims of floods are right to slam lack of Government help

Our flooded families deserve help and the victims of storms Dennis and Ciara are entitled to be furious at the crushing indifference shown by the Government.

Parts of the country are under water, there are heartbreaking tales of ruined homes and wrecked businesses. Responsible ministers would be pulling out all the stops to help.

But once again we see that Boris Johnson is all spin no substance, failing to mobilise any assistance on a grand scale.

The clean-up is important, but we must remember that the Tory budget cutters are responsible for many gaps in flood defences which might have held back the waters.

The can-do spirit of people coping with massive calamity allied with the emergency services responding professionally really showcases the best that Britain has to offer.

The worst of Britain is a Government not on the side of people who could do with help.

Save the BBC

The BBC is more popular than Boris Johnson and the Conservative Party, so maybe jealousy is why small-minded Tories yearn to destroy a broadcasting icon that is the envy of the world.

Whatever the reason, this is a moment for good people who value our country to stand up and be counted before it is too late.

Because whatever faults the BBC has, we are better with the corporation than without.

The Tories are bullying the BBC to distract from huge problems such as low pay and crumbling hospitals. Let’s save the BBC and cut the Conservatives down to size.

We must talk

Difficult questions must be answered by the Crown Prosecution Service, but Caroline Flack’s death must also focus our minds on mental health issues.

More than 6,000 people in Britain take their own lives yearly – more than die on our roads.

We need to learn how to talk to each other about our feelings or even more families will have to mourn lost loved ones.
