Voice of the Mirror: Vaccine targets must be hit as NHS delivers jab at breakneck speed

Vaccinating people four times faster than new cases of coronavirus are detected is a phenomenal, inspiring performance by a National Health Service the Conservatives were wrong to dangerously deny adequate funding for so long.

Shortages and problems with the supply of the vaccines seem to have mysteriously vanished as Ministers tout ever more ambitious figures, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab topping the first 15million most vulnerable by the middle of next month with another 17million by early Spring.

Let us hope these targets are hit but it should be noted the Government talks as if people given a first jab are inoculated when immunisation isn’t complete until the second, and thegap between the two injections is delayed to 12 weeks.

We applaud NHS staff, volunteers and communities behind the mass programme with new centres opening around the country to get protection into as many arms as deliverable at breakneck speed.

The PM and Ministers must be kept under pressure and constantly remind that the NHS does deliver miracles when it’s given the resources.
