The Government is launching an advertising blitz urging people to stay home to stem the spread of Covid.
There are fears if people start to drop their guard the NHS will struggle to cope with the surging second wave.
This otherwise sound advice has one major flaw. Many who should self-isolate just can’t afford to.
And, in typical Tory fashion, there is too little financial support being provided and the Government is trying to shift responsibility.
In theory self-isolaters can apply for a £500 hardship grant from their local council.

Yet fewer than one in four have been able to get this support because cash-strapped local authorities have been give just £15million between them to cover this additional cost.
The Government is looking to move blame for the spread of the virus onto the public when, once again, the failure lies in the Treasury and Downing Street.
Protect homes
Fresh on the heels of Storm Christoph parts of Britain are braced for more floods.
This will mean misery, disruption and heartache for thousands of people.
They are rightly asking why more has not been done to protect their homes. Some places are suffering their 17th flood in 21 years.
Residents in these areas say they have been abandoned by the Government.
They want to know why defences have not been built despite the billions of pounds promised by inisters.
The climate crisis means these extreme weather events are becoming more frequent.
This makes the need for proper flood protection measures all the more urgent.

Campaigners say Britain’s loneliest elephant, Anne, should be allowed to spend her final years at a sanctuary in the South of France.
Let’s hope she’s allowed to pack her trunk and go.
