Boris Johnson should read the testimonies from those who have lost loved ones to Covid-19 in our paper today.
He would understand the grief they are suffering, and why they want a public inquiry.
These are not people seeking vengeance on the Government for any mistakes it has made.
They are simply people who have been through anguish and want the truth.
The Prime Minister’s reluctance to hold an investigation smacks of a sub-par student unwilling to hand in their homework because they know they will get a poor mark.
But if you refuse to have your work examined, you cannot learn from your mistakes.

By delaying an inquiry, Mr Johnson is delaying the opportunity to review how the government has handled the pandemic.
He appears to care more about protecting his reputation than the feelings of the bereaved.
The Prime Minister cannot run from the truth. When the UK has suffered one of the highest Covid death tolls in the world, the Government has to be held accountable.
For the sake of all those who have suffered, we will fight to make sure that happens.
A fairer deal

NHS staff in Scotland are to be offered a pay rise of at least 4% in gratitude for their dedication during the pandemic.
This is on top of the £500 bonus they have already received as a thank-you present.
By contrast health workers in England have been promised a miserly 1% uplift in salary.
The Scottish Government clearly recognises the hard work, service and sacrifices made by health workers, even though money is tight.
The UK Government could have made the same choice. The fact that it didn’t shows how much it cares for the NHS and its staff.
