Voice of the Mirror: Sleazy Johnson fails the vulnerable by breaking social care promise

Thousands of families would be relieved if sleazy Boris Johnson put in as much effort fixing social care as he does finding secret donors to fund his lavish lifestyle.

Once again the Tory backslider is fleeing a major public issue and breaking promises by leaving a gaping hole in policy.

Falling through that wide hole are elderly, vulnerable and disabled folks and their families left to struggle with huge care bills.

Unlike the Prime Minister, they cannot tap up Tory donors to pick up the tab.

We have had enough of cynically empty words from Conservative Prime Ministers.

David Cameron, Theresa May and now Boris Johnson have failed to fulfil promises.

Johnson is guilty of putting himself first and the British people last.

Fly cover fears

Consumer watchdog Which?’s latest report is worrying. The Government must crack down on companies plotting to avoid paying out on policies, including cancellations when flying abroad remains unpredictable.

The travel industry and the jobs dependent on it will be in peril if the public is deterred from booking holidays.

If the insurance industry won’t pay fair with customers, the law must represent the interests of holidaymakers who deserve to be fully protected.

Ethel’s heroes

Ethel Hanford, aged 99, has proved herself to be a true survivor after a gas blast blew away the front of her home.

Ethel was found sitting at the dining room table by two construction workers.

Hero father and son Andy and Harry Hodges, who also rescued her screaming neighbour, deserve medals for risking their lives by running into a burning row of houses.
