Voice of the Mirror: Sleaze a crime against us all and Johnson demeans his high office

The Tories are slumping in the polls thanks to public concern rising about Conservative sleaze.

Boris Johnson’s alleged flippant dismissal of thousands dying from Covid-19 has struck a chord, although No10 screams it is all lies.

Few who know him doubt Johnson was recklessly cavalier as scientists warned about a lethal second wave.

The PM, who built a career on evading responsibility for hare-brained decisions, is a stranger to honesty and integrity.

Cabinet Ministers sent out to deny the truth, or a Cabinet Secretary stonewalling about sleaze in No10, do not serve the public interest or support good government.

(Jonathan Buckmaster)

Johnson putting himself first, second and third is totally predictable and unacceptable.

Asking Tory donors to pay secretly for his wallpaper, offering to fix tax for tycoons or, most of all, costing lives by failing to protect the British people is just not on.

Sleaze is a crime against us all and Johnson demeans the high office he holds.

Tech to task

Ending abuse and bullying on the internet isn’t about shielding sports stars or showbiz giants, although they are entitled to protection against vile trolls spewing hatred and racism.

We want the tech giants to cease giving platforms to the poisoners because everyday folk are suffering terrible torment.

The child bullied at home on their phone as well as at school, the neighbour hounded 24/7 and the workmate whose life is a permanent misery all deserve freedom from the idiots.

Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and the rest must step up to the plate or laws will be needed to force them to do the right thing.

Dan’s earned it

Daniel Kaluuya scooped Best Supporting Actor (Getty Images)

The Oscar for Daniel Kaluuya in Judas and the Black Messiah is the success story of a man who made it on merit.

We would love more young folk from ordinary backgrounds to be Hollywood stars.
