Voice of the Mirror: Shamed by the baby bank

The need for charity baby banks to feed and clothe the newborns of poor mums is a stain on this supposedly civilised nation.

We applaud the banks’ generous donors and magnificent volunteers who save innocent infants and their mothers from destitution.

But we condemn the cruel poverty, low wages and social security cuts created under a Tory government with no moral compass.

There are more than 100 baby banks and by highlighting their work Labour former Prime Minister Gordon Brown shows a moral authority which should have vicar’s daughter Theresa May weeping.

Stalkers preying on victims use trackers as cheap as £40 to spy on loved ones

Reducing child poverty was a jewel in the crown of the Brown and Tony Blair Labour governments.

But David Cameron and now Mrs May seem to think a ruined start to life is a price worth paying to impose a failed Tory austerity ideology.

Children born into homes with nothing will be scarred for life.

Their development will be arrested and opportunities closed before they even aware of callous benefits freeze and monstrosity that is universal credit.
