Voice of the Mirror: 'Rishi Sunak has shown contempt for OAPs and low income households'

Rishi Sunak has shown cruel contempt for pensioners and lower income households by leaving them in limbo about whether he will slash increases they are entitled to.

The new Prime Minister is off to a bad start by postponing a crucial Government financial statement from 31 October to 17 November.

It could well be a delayed Halloween horror.

His smug claim that he’s always cared for the vulnerable is understandably met with scepticism.

As Chancellor he broke the triple lock Tory manifesto promise on raising the state pension and axed a lifeline £20 weekly Universal Credit award to six million families.

He has no mandate to impose spending cuts on the most needy or to scythe public services.

Unelected and imposed on the nation, here is another PM treating the British people with typical Tory disregard.

Proud of them

The People of Ukraine wins the Spirit Of Freedom Award, presented by Michael Sheen at the 2022 Pride of Britain Awards (Daily Mirror)

That women and children from war-torn Ukraine are the Pride of Britain is a tribute to our country’s compassion, generosity and solidarity.

The 15 refugees represent a European nation resisting a murderous, unprovoked invasion by Putin’s merciless military machine.

They are also a symbol of the emotional and practical support given by us. Ukraine’s struggle is our struggle, the thunderous standing ovation, the heartfelt support of an audience representing the whole of the UK.

You can watch the love shown to the refugees on ITV1 tonight alongside the appreciation for Britons who make us proud.

Rather lucky

Perhaps one day strained relations between King Charles and Prince Harry will be healed (Getty Images)

The disgraced Duke of York and a Duke of Sussex, busy creating a new life in California, are lucky the King isn’t formally dropping them as counsellors of state.

Shamed Andrew must never be allowed to return to a public role but perhaps one day strained relations between Charles and Harry will be healed, as rifts in many families are resolved eventually.
