Work laws put at risk
It has not taken long for Boris Johnson to show his true colours.
The ink on the Brexit trade deal is barely dry and he is talking about rolling back workers’ rights and environmental protections.
We know from bitter experience that the pledges made by the Brexiteers are not worth the bus they are written on.
So it is no surprise that the Prime Minister is already considering breaking his pre-treaty promise not to downgrade employment laws.
This was always the Brexiteers’ intention.
They wanted to leave the EU to build a low-tax, deregulated economy favouring bosses. Free ports are their way of doing this.
These are on-shore tax havens where workers will be less protected than in the rest of the UK. This is not about boosting the economy post Brexit. It is a deliberate race to the bottom.

Cynical Sunak
When the Tories are in charge you never hear the words taxes and fairness in the same sentence.
Those with the least always seem to end up bearing the greatest burden.
This has not changed under Rishi Sunak.
The cynical Chancellor wants to shift the pain of having to increase taxes from central government to local government.
Despite having starved local authorities of funds he is now expecting them to pick up the cost of the Covid crisis.
This will mean higher council tax bills for millions in the New Year.
An analysis shows this £2billion bombshell will disproportionately hit seats newly-won by the Tories in the North and the Midlands.
Residents should know that when the bills land on their doorstep it is the fault of the Chancellor, not their local leaders.

A gong wait
At long last England football hero Jimmy Greaves is to receive an MBE.
It has taken far too long for his brilliance to be recognised. England left it late to beat Germany in 1966 and to finally reward Jimmy.
