Voice of the Mirror: Parents and teachers are rightly concerned as England schools re-open

Parents who don’t send their children back to school, and teachers who won’t go back into classrooms, have legitimate concerns that should not be dismissed.

But we also appreciate the importance of resuming education, particularly for children from disadvantaged and working-class homes.

Easing restrictions and opening closed sectors are judgement calls made by a Prime Minister who has repeatedly proved himself lacking sound acumen.

So warnings from scientists that he is moving too fast are worrying.

Boris Johnson has been more concerned with diverting attention to save his discredited adviser Dominic Cummings.

What’s obvious, however, is that the PM in No10 because he championed Brexit to “take back control” has in fact lost control.

Millions who had abided by the rules, enduring personal sacrifices, are now rebelling after he gave Cummings a free pass.

But families and friends desperate to see each other must take care because the virus is still killing hundreds of people every week.
