Voice of The Mirror: Joker Boris Johnson is simply not fit to run UK plc

If there was an application process for the CEO of UK plc, Boris Johnson would not even be invited for interview.

One look at his CV would be enough for the recruitment panel to swiftly bin it.

They would not be impressed that a candidate hoping to run Britain’s biggest business told the Belgian ambassador: “F*** business.”

There would be no glowing references from previous employers such as one-time Tory leader Michael Howard, who fired Johnson for fibbing about an extramarital affair.

Or from the editor of The Times who sacked him for making up a quotation.

Or from Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, languishing in an Iranian jail for longer than necessary because Johnson carelessly described her as something she wasn’t.

Or from former leadership rival Michael Gove, said to be a victim of an alleged dirty tricks campaign waged by the Johnson team.

Or from the survivors of child sex abuse, who rely on diligent police investigations for justice, only to be told the money spent on them was “spaffed up the wall”.

Or from the Muslim women he insulted as “letterboxes” and “bank robbers” for exercising their right to wear what they choose.

Boris Johnson is without qualification the most unsuitable Prime Minister since... well, since 1721, when the post was invented.

Instead of quietly celebrating his win over Jeremy Hunt with his lover Carrie Symonds, they had a blazing row prompting police cars to attend the scene (Christopher Furlong)

Johnson only had to keep his nose clean for four weeks to become Britain’s next PM. He managed a little over four hours.

After winning 83 more MPs’ votes than rival Jeremy Hunt in the race to No10, instead of quietly celebrating with lover Carrie Symonds, they had a blazing row prompting police cars to attend the scene.

Johnson’s supporters shrug this off as a non-story.

They did their deal with the devil long ago to accept their hero’s bad behaviour as the price for his vote-winning charisma.

But this is Britain’s probable next PM, our leading man on the world stage, the man we would wish foreign statesmen to look up to, not down on.

This news would only have been trumped if police were called to No10 because Philip May was in a strop when Theresa was late with the beans on toast.

But Trump is exactly the model Boris-backers are thinking of, another blond, philandering liar and unsuitable world leader. Yet Americans rewarded him with their votes and are likely to do so again.

Johnson has none of the purpose of Margaret Thatcher or the compassionate conservatism of David Cameron (Christopher Furlong)

We live in an age of populist politics and showman politicians.

Unlike Tory predecessors, Johnson has none of the purpose of Margaret Thatcher or the compassionate conservatism of David Cameron.

This newspaper did not support their policies, but we recognised them as the serious political thinkers they were.

Johnson’s only policy is to achieve office, without any credible plan of what do with it.

He is an empty vessel. A joker who in reality is the joke. As Carrie told him: “You don’t care for anything because you’re spoilt.”

He should not be allowed to spoil our nation.
