'Boris Johnson has priorities warped if he can find money for nukes not nurses'

Boris Johnson proves once again that he is a PM with warped priorities as he finds no money for nurses, but a small fortune for extra nuclear weapons.

The truth is this Conservative Government could afford to give a decent wage rise to NHS workers, who saved the Prime Minister’s life, if Johnson cared enough. He doesn’t.

Recklessly escalating nuclear proliferation is a menacing choice for expenditure when it does nothing to enhance Britain’s security and arguably leaves us more vulnerable.

He is foolish and wrong to cut troops who could serve as peacekeepers and international aid programmes that stabilise the world.

The ordering of more nuclear warheads is a military and diplomatic blunder.

Put the two together and we have a haemorrhaging of British authority on the world stage.

Every nation urged by Johnson never to develop nuclear weapons, starting with Iran, will mock him.

We don’t need more nuclear weapons.

Johnson’s wrong. Again.

Unforgivable

That the virus is on the run is a cause for celebration, but not complacency.

Falling deaths, hospitalisations and infections are a tribute to the fantastic success of the NHS mass vaccination programme, an initiative which highlights the expensive folly of the private Test and Trace shambles.

But as we breathe a sigh of relief, we must hold to account an incompetent Prime Minister whose unforgivable mistakes and dithering needlessly cost lives and livelihoods.

Had ministers responded better this time last year, then from the autumn of 2020, since when more than half of the deaths occurred, fewer families would be grieving.

Feel for Phil

Leaving hospital in good spirits, Prince Philip has missed a lot in the past month.

Let’s hope the family waits until he’s stronger to tell him about the racism row with Harry and Meghan or he might just ask to go back.
