Voice of the Mirror: 'Harry Dunn's parents given crass offer by Donald Trump'

The parents of Harry Dunn have conducted themselves with great dignity since their son was killed in a fatal crash.

Charlotte Charles and Tim Dunn travelled to the US to press for Anna Sacoolas, the American woman accused of causing Harry’s death, to face justice in the UK.

Instead of being treated with respect they found themselves the victims of a scene that would shame a daytime TV show.

Invited to the White House, Donald Trump showed a toe-curling lack of sensitivity by trying to spring on them a surprise meeting with Mrs Sacoolas. Understandably, they declined such a crass offer.

The US president then added to their agony by defending Mrs Sacoolas, saying it was a “simple driving error”. Charlotte and Tim deserve better than this. They are two loving parents, not extras in the Jerry Springer Show.

Mrs Sacoolas has said she is sorry about the tragedy but has so far refused to return to the UK. Her lack of decency is matched only by Mr Trump’s revolting grandstanding.

If he had any compassion he would order her to take the first flight back to Britain.

Leah’s legacy

Fans and colleagues are in mourning following the death of Leah Bracknell.

For three years the Emmerdale star fought her battle against lung cancer with bravery.

Like many cancer patients she was not able to get the care she needed in the UK. A lack of options available on the NHS meant her family had to rely on the generosity of well-wishers to raise money for treatment overseas.

It is a reminder of how much more we need to do to help sufferers of this deadly disease and how much more the NHS could achieve if it were properly funded.

He’s rhumbled

Craig Revel-Horwood has claimed that viewers of BBC’s Strictly know nothing about dancing.

His comments are a quickstep towards making him the most unpopular person on TV.
