Voice of the Mirror: Good conduct in public office is obligatory, not optional

Trust is hard won and easily lost by politicians so Boris Johnson can have no complaints about people doubting what he says when he is a serial liar.

Sacked twice for deception and caught fibbing time after time, including that £350million expensive porkie down the side of his Brexit bus, he’s the author of his discomfort.

Also given his misleading the public about an inflated Tory hospital programme, his slipperiness is why questions keep arising about his relationship with an American woman who benefited from grants and trade missions.

From the beginning, this Prime Minister has proved less than frank about his friendship with Jennifer Arcuri and it is increasingly impossible for any reasonable person not to suspect he appears to be hiding something.

Good conduct in public office is obligatory, not an optional extra, particularly when the expenditure of taxpayers’ money is involved.

Johnson’s the most untrustworthy leader in modern British history for good reason when he finds it impossible to give a straight answer to a straight question.

Hunt is off

Huge public backing for a trophy hunting ban is propelling the Government towards outlawing the bloodsport and a landmark victory for the Daily Mirror’s campaign.

The roar of 86% of the country is a deafening call to block armed killers importing the heads, skins and other body parts of lions, elephants and other majestic wild animals.

Every generation is a caretaker of our planet, not the owner, and we are under an obligation to leave the earth better than we found it.

And that includes preserving precious species by binning despicable trophy hunters.

Love match

England football veteran Rio Ferdinand tying the knot with Kate Wright proves that life can be a game of two halves.

We wish Rio, who lost his first wife Rebecca Ellison in 2015 to cancer, and Kate true joy as they inspire others to find love after tragedy.
