Time to deliver
One of the most important, yet least known, figures in frontline politics is Anneliese Dodds.
Today she is due to become the first female Shadow Chancellor to address the Labour Party’s annual conference.
Because her speech is online, not in a huge hall to thunderous applause, a little of the shine may be lost. But online or on stage, she must map out a compelling socialist alternative programme to Conservative cuts.
Unless she does, Labour’s outside chance of a sensational election victory in 2024 or 2025 will be dashed. On the shoulders of this sensible brainbox rest the hopes of millions.

Our hearts go out to Linda Nolan, sister of Daily Mirror columnist and Loose Women star Coleen, on the completion of her chemotherapy.
