Voice of the Mirror: A world family of nations must help Sri Lanka get justice

The unbearable pain of families who lost loved ones in the Easter Massacre in Sri Lanka is heartbreaking.

It is impossible to imagine the agony of Ben Nicholson whose wife and two children were so violently taken from him.

Or to fail to be angry that British retired firefighter Billy Harrop will have saved many lives in his career then cruelly loses his own in a terrorist attack.

To stop bloodshed the authorities must bring to justice those responsible for the slaughter of close on 300 people and prevent terror cells sourcing fresh recruits.

Whatever assistance the government in Sir Lanka requires, Britain and the world’s family of nations must provide it. Terrorism is a global, indiscriminate enemy.

We mourn the dead, comfort the grieving and stand defiant.

Rotten state

Waits of more than a year to see an NHS dentist is our most precious public service decaying in the hands of rotten Tories.

Average delays of 16 months to get on lists in Devon and Cornwall are unacceptable and evidence of a growing crisis when parts of Merseyside and Yorkshire are said to be as bad.

Our teeth and oral hygiene are a vital part of our health so erecting obstacles to patients receiving treatment is unforgivable.

We all must take partial responsibility for our teeth but Tory Health Secretary Matt Hancock must take significant responsibility for unacceptable gaps in NHS dentistry.

He is another self-interested Conservative who should focus on the day job instead of obsessing about how he can supplant Theresa May and be Prime Minister.

Love endures

Hearts will be melted by elderly couple Jim and Irene Richardson renewing their wedding vows in the church where they married 75 years ago.

Times have changed since 1944 but how refreshing that love remained the one constant on their diamond anniversary.
