The former playboy husband of Vogue Williams has admitted he was an alcoholic “on paper” before giving up the drink two years ago.
Reality TV star Spencer Matthews has revealed he “needed to make a change” after alcohol was getting in the way of life and work.
Spencer, 31, and Vogue, 34, were every inch the loving couple as they made an appearance on The Ray D’Arcy Show on RTE One on Saturday night.
For the interview, the Howth model donned a white crop top, pairing it with a white blazer with multi-coloured stripes and matching trousers.
Meanwhile, Spencer sported a grey shirt which he paired with black slim-fitting trousers.
Spencer, who is launching a non-alcohol drinks brand next week, spoke openly about his life-changing decision two years ago to stop drinking.
He told host Ray D’Arcy: “I’ve completely changed my relationship with alcohol.
“I completely gave up alcohol but now entertain the idea of ultra-low alcohol products. So yeah, it’s not that I completely abstain from alcohol but I haven’t been drunk in nearly two years.”
Host Ray asked Spencer if he was an alcoholic.
Spencer replied: “Was I an alcoholic? I suppose on paper, yeah. It’s a strange word, that, because obviously people can drink different amounts and feel different about alcohol.
“Some people are good on loads of alcohol, others will have one drink and feel rubbish the next day.
“But was it affecting my life? Yes. Did it get in the way of productivity and business and work? Yes. Did it have to change? Yes.”
Ray then asked Vogue whether her husband has become a nicer man since he gave up alcohol.
Vogue said: “He’s still really good fun, so it’s not like I’m going out with someone who doesn’t drink. We go out and we have a laugh and we have dinner with our friends, and it’s a million times better.”
Vogue, who has a one-year-old son named Theodore with Spencer, took the opportunity to again deny rumours that she may be pregnant with their second child.
After the rumours began last week, Vogue took to social media to deny them - although she said she hoped she might become pregnant again next year.
But, pointing to her flat abdomen, she said she didn’t want to put any pressure on herself or Spencer.
She told Ray: “You don’t want to put a timeline on that, you don’t know how long it’s going to take.
“I’m never going to tell anyone when we’re trying.”
The happy couple said they enjoyed Halloween with their son.
Vogue said: “Theodore dressed up a lot for Halloween. That’s one of the best things about having a child, I think - you get to dress them up in ridiculous outfits.”
Spencer chimed in: “Especially with Instagram nowadays - you can take a picture of your kid in a Halloween outfit and you can feel like you’ve had a good Halloween.”
Vogue replied: “We had a lovely Halloween. I pre-ordered the costumes and I wanted him to look really cute and he did. He delivered.”
