Vogue Williams felt 'laughed at' as RTE stars 'refused to work with her' after Fade Street

Vogue Williams said she felt laughed at by other people in the industry when she starred on Fade Street - but insists she’s not embarrassed by her time on the show.

The TV world first met the Howth native in 2010, when she took part in the RTE 2 Irish reality show, loosely based on the style of The Hills.

And whilst she has no regrets about her first claim to fame, despite dubbing the series ‘absolute sh*te’ - she said she’s still raging over how other people treated her when she was on it.

She said: “I did Fade Street. But I’m genuinely not embarrassed by that. I mean, it was absolute sh*te show but like quite entertaining to watch.

“And even when I look at it, I laugh at it.

“I’m like, it was my first thing on TV, I’m not embarrassed about it at all”.

However, she felt others were and recalled an experience where people had refused to work with her due to her involvement in the reality show.

The 35-year-old said: “These guys who were also working in RTE at the time, I had been asked to go and film something with them.

“And so I drove from Howth all the way into the other side of town, it took me over an hour to get there, and arrived at the house where the filming was happening and they didn’t even come down to say hello.

“So their manager was there and they didn’t even come down to say hello to me.

"Now this is going back like 15 years maybe but it still f***s me off. I drove the whole way there.

“I remember even at that age, you’re thinking ‘petrol there is going to cost me 15 quid’ because you wouldn’t have that much money.

“And I got there, and they didn’t even come down to me.

“And then I was told that they wouldn’t film me with me because I was in Fade Street. And I was just left down there.

“I felt so embarrassed and kind of laughed at. And I just was like ‘you f*cking arseholes’ and I had to drive all the way back. Spend all my money on the petrol home."

Speaking to RTE presenter Doireann Garrihy on her Laughs Of Your Life podcast, Vogue said she never realised how many doors the show opened for her and never shies away from her past.

The mother-of-two, who is now hosting Virgin Media's The Big Deal, as well as a weekly radio show on the UK’s Heart FM said: “I never thought it would do what it did.

“That was my foot in the door with TV. I’m not embarrassed about it at all.. but they obviously were.”

It comes after Vogue told Irish Daily Mirror how she believes the starter gig helped get her to where she is today.

Looking back at the turning point in her career, she said: “I’ve just built on everything for years and years and getting to do more TV.

“I suppose my first big thing was Fade Street, and then from that RTE gave me loads of documentaries.

“Which in turn made me be able to have a showreel to show the UK and that kind of switched things up for me.”

Irish Mirror has reached out to RTE for comment.
