Vodka raid on Stanley shop

Stanley’s Spar shop was broken into on Wednesday, June 12 with thieves forcing open the door with a shovel.

The shop on Percy Street, Stanley was targeted at 2.45am, with the thieves making off with 20 bottles of own brand vodka.

Hazel Craik, manager of the Stanley Spar shop for 17 years, was surprised they ignored the whisky and other spirits, and left with vodka.

“They walked past the shelves with the whisky, and had a go at the cigarette gantry, but that was locked.

“Instead they took about 20 bottles of our own-brand vodka. It was very strange.

“I was raging when I saw the mess they’d made.

“Being a village, our customers have been lovely, very understanding and supportive this week.”

The three suspects are males, who wore hoodies and stockings over their faces.

Images of them wielding the shovel and holding a hockey stick were captured on CCTV operating both inside and outside the store.

The thieves came and left in a red Volvo S60.
