Vodafone issues urgent scam alert to anyone with an Android device

Vodafone has issued an urgent message to its customers following a scam text circulating.

The phone provider has been made aware of a fake text claiming to be from delivery service DHL.

Vodafone says a link in the message contains malicious malware targeting Android devices.

The fake text message reads: "DHL: Your parcel is arriving, track here," and then provides a link to the recipient.

In response Vodafone has released a warning to customers on its Facebook page, reading: "SCAM ALERT. We’ve been made aware of a text message that claims to be from DHL but contains a link to malicious malware targeting Android devices.

"If you receive a text that looks like the one below:

"IGNORE: Do not click any links.

"REPORT: Report it by forwarding to 7726.

"DELETE: Remove the text from your phone.

"We’ve seen reports of this across all networks in many countries, and it seems to be growing quickly. Please be careful."

Vodafone customers replied to the Facebook post saying they have received the scam messages or had similar ones sent to their devices.

"Not having the texts but did have a scam email saying they were from your company ignored it and let your customer services know," one person commented.

"Had that one twice in the last few days, and one from a bank (not mine) and had the national insurance no. one this morning," another wrote.

"Mine had a different link. There are loads of them," another follower said.

Vodafone has set up an advice page on its website so that customers are able to identify scam messages.

It also includes information on how you can report any messages you receive.
