Vodafone down: Internet not working as users report problems with broadband and 4G phone network

Vodafone's internet service appears to have stopped working properly, with users unable to get online.

The issues appear to have happened across Europe, with users from a variety of countries across the continent reporting issues.

The problems did not appear to be affecting every Vodafone customer. But they were widely spread: there were reports from a variety of countries, and they were said to be happening in a variety of different regions.

Some users suggested the problem appeared to be with DNS, the system that works as the address book for the internet. If there are problems with that service, then it can cause issues with internet connectivity across the web, since it means computer's traffic is not being directed accurately.

Numerous Vodafone users said they had got around the problem by changing their DNS settings to Google's public service. That is done by heading into the settings and finding the advanced option on that page, and adding 8.8.8.8 as the address.

While that fix is available to anyone with the technical ability to make those changes to their broadband, it requires some difficult alterations to the settings and is not available to anyone attempting to connect using their phone's internet over 4G.

Vodafone's official account is yet to publicly tweet about the problems but has relied to a variety of users complaining about connectivity problems.
