Demi Lovato will perform her latest single "Cool for the Summer", while Taylor Swift is delivering the premiere for her track "Wildest Dreams" at this year’s VMA awards, as is Nick Jonas.
Swift's video "Bad Blood" is nominated for eight awards. The singer found herself in hot water last month after jumping into a series of tweets by Nicki Minaj about black women's influence on pop culture. Minaj felt the video for her single "Anaconda" deserved more recognition but Swift appeared to take this as a personal slight.
Miley Cyrus, who is hosting this year’s event, also commented on the incident, saying Minaj’s comments were “not very polite”.
The 22-year-old artist is set to front the awards on her own, two years after a memorable and highly controversial performance with Robin Thicke.
"We've had a long-standing relationship with her from the 2013 VMAs," said Amy Doyle, executive producer of the show, said of Cyrus. "She continues to be an amazing character in pop culture, she's musical and has lots of personality."
