Tana Mongeau and H.E.R. wear live snakes in VMA tribute to Britney Spears

Not one but two stars found an unusual way to pay tribute to Britney Spears at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards on Monday night.

YouTuber Tana Mongeau and Grammy-award winning musician H.E.R. both brought live snakes to the ceremony in New Jersey.

It might be embarrassing if someone shows up at a major event in the same outfit - but Mongeau and H.E.R. arrived at the MTV Video Music Awards with the exact same 'accessory' - a live snake.

Many online were unimpressed with the snakes, with Twitter users calling the stars out for bringing a live animal onto the red carpet.

Many pointed out that the snake was probably alarmed by the crowds, noise and flashbulbs.

22-year-old singer H.E.R. also brought a snake along, draping a live python over a floral Valentino suit.

She posted on Instagram about bringing her pet to the ceremony.

Spears herself recently faced backlash on Instagram after posting a photo of $6,000 snakeskin heels.

But despite facing heat from PETA for the stunt, her snake performance is still being emulated nearly two decades later.
