VMAs 2019: from Taylor Swift to Lizzo, the best dressed on this year's red carpet

The MTV VMA’s have played host to some of both music, and fashion’s, most avant-garde moments over the years. Who could forget Lady Gaga’s infamous meat dress-look in 2010, or that iconic Britney and Justin double-denim moment?

And, as the It crowd rocked up to the 2019 award show, held in New Jersey on Monday night, they certainly did not disappoint. From the Hadids to Taylor Swift to Camila Cabello, they all took a moment to teach us some major lessons in seriously fierce red carpet fashion.

The talk of the evening was largely about the long-awaited return of Taylor Swift. The seven-time VMA winner dazzled in Versace as she walked the red carpet before her opening performance of two singles from her latest album, Lover. All shortly before she also accepted the highly-coveted Video of the Year award for You Need to Calm Down. Yes, the Queen of Pop is most definitely back and, this time, she's politicised.

Real life couple Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes also set pulses racing at this year's VMAs. Though they didn’t walk the red carpet together, they did take to the stage to serenade the audience with a performance of their single, Señorita, while gazing in to each other’s eyes. Steamy.

Other highlights included Missy Elliott’s performance in a customised ‘Missy’ two-piece, as she received the prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award. Presenter Cardi B summed it all up rather eloquently, as she declared the performance: ‘FIRE.’
