VMA host Sebastian Maniscalco has come under fire for "poking fun at mental health and trauma".
Angry viewers switched over after what they believe were insensitive jokes by someone 'most people have not heard of'.
The comedian enraged many just minutes after coming on stage.
He told the audience: “If you feel triggered or you feel offended by anything I’m saying up here, they’re providing a safe space backstage where you’ll get some stress balls and a blankey."
This was minutes after Taylor Swift gave a powerful speech on LGBT rights - and viewers were not happy.
He went on: "MTV is doing this old school tonight. They’re giving one trophy per category.
"Not everyone’s walking away with a moon person or a participation or a participation ribbon. This is not little league."
His views were a far cry from the opening performance of Taylor, who championed diversity during her curtain raising performance at the MTV awards.
Furious viewers flooded twitter with complaints about the host.
One posted: "We are less than 15 minutes into the #VMAs and this host no one has ever heard of has already tried to poke fun at mental health and trauma. Remember when the VMA’s weren’t trash?"
Another wrote: "Worst. Host. Ever. He's going against everything everyone has fought so hard for over the years."
Viewers may be asking who he is but back in December the host cracked Forbes’ list of the highest-paid comedians.
He came in at number ten after earning $15million in 2018.
But his comments on the eve of the VMAs will only annoy his critics further.
“I’m not a huge music guy," he admitted. I’m not kind of privy on who sings what, who’s in a feud with who.
"But yeah, I did a little research on the artists and the presenters - so I’m ready to go.”
The comments kept coming as Maniscalco couldn't escape backlash.
"Already annoyed with this host, whoever he is," another posted.
