'Vladimir Putin is a truly wicked man, there's no justification for Ukraine invasion'

The blood-soaked war Vladimir Putin has unleashed on Ukraine is an act of pure evil by a truly wicked man.

In his desire to win at any cost, Russia ’s leader has resorted to terror and barbarism.

On his command, schools, residential blocks and hospitals are being bombed. Hundreds of innocents have been slaughtered.

Even in the most bitterly-fought contests opposing forces can behave with decency but Putin has zero regard for civilised values.

Brutal Russian troops stand accused of raping Ukrainian women, executing
prisoners and murdering civilians.

Putin is even prepared to risk disaster with his reckless attack on a nuclear power plant.

There is no justification for his invasion and none for the heinous way it is being pursued.

Which is why Gordon Brown is right to demand Putin should one day face a
Nuremberg-style war crimes tribunal.

It may prove impossible to bring him to justice but for the sake of Ukrainian people every effort must be made to do so.

Millions at risk

All doctors will tell you that prevention is better than cure.

So it makes no sense for the Government to axe free flu jabs for secondary school children and people aged 50 to 64 in England.

This reckless decision will leave millions vulnerable if there is an outbreak now.

This would batter the NHS, especially if it coincides with a new wave of Covid-19.

Ministers are also preparing to scrap free Covid tests, making it harder to track cases or detect new strains. The Government is removing our defences before the fight is won.

Greats leave us

Cricket is in mourning after the deaths of Shane Warne and Rodney Marsh, two of the greatest players to grace the game.

Warne was mesmerising with the ball and Marsh was a genius behind the stumps. Just think how many wickets they would have taken had they played together.
