West Ham are set to land one of their defensive targets, after agreeing a £5.5million deal to sign Slavia Prague right-back Vladimir Coufal.

David Moyes has been pushing co-owner David Sullivan to add new defenders to his squad and the Hammers are also looking to sign a centre-back before next Monday’s deadline.

Coufal is due to undergo a medical in London on Thursday and the 28-year-old Czech Republic international will provide cover in a position that West Ham need to strengthen.

Ryan Fredericks is their only right-back with Premier League experience and it was confirmed this week that he will be out until after the international break with a hamstring injury. Ben Johnson is the only other right-back option.

Coufal played in the 2-1 win over England last year and is a former team-mate of Hammers midfielder Tomas Soucek.

The need for new defenders was highlighted by last night’s 4-1 Carabao Cup defeat to Everton.
