Vizag city gears up for Lord Jagannath temple Rath Yatra

VISAKHAPATNAM: With just two days to go for the Rath Yatra being organised by the Sri Jagannath Swamy temple, temples in Vizag city and surrounding districts are gearing up to conduct the yatra in a grand manner. After muted celebrations in the past two years due to Covid-19 pandemic, this year brings new hope for the devotees in north coastal Andhra Pradesh region.

Authorities of the over 185-year old Lord Sri Jagannath Swamy temple at old town area, Utkal Sanskrutika Samaj, ISKCON temple and a few other organisations in city will be celebrating Rath Yatra on July 1.

During the festival, the deities will be carried in a unique chariot (20 ft high). The procession which starts from Town Kotha Road will go to Turner’s Choultry, said executive officer of the temple, S Prasana Lakshmi.
