Vivianne Miedema saves Arsenal vs Tottenham as Jonas Eidevall admits Gunners deserved to win

Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall maintained his side deserved to beat Tottenham Hotspur despite being held to a dramatic 1-1 draw in the North London derby.

Arsenal dominated first-half chances but were punished for their profligacy when Rachel Williams left them chasing the game for the first time this season as she bundled home.

Eidevall's side were bailed out by Vivianne Miedema's last-minute header but insisted his side deserved a seventh successive victory in the FA WSL.

“It’s a difficult one: if you looked at the game objectively as a whole we should have won," said the Swede.

"We had so many opportunities but we just couldn’t get the ball to go in. But then we conceded at a vulnerable time, which created stress for us and belief for Spurs, and it’s important that we regained control.

“It’s a two-way street. We’re disappointed overall but a valuable point and lesson for us in terms of our mentality.”

Miedema continued her brilliant record in the North London derby - she has scored all four times she has played against Spurs, netting six times.

For Eidevall and the Gunners, it caps an intense week that started with a 4-0 win over West Ham and a quick midweek turnaround to beat Denmark's HB Coge in the Champions League.

“We’ve had such a tight schedule," said Eidevall. "We played on Sunday, then again on Wednesday on a different surface, and then on Saturday lunchtime. When you add on travelling to that we knew it would be difficult across the three games, but I’m proud of our performances.”

The closing moments of the game were mired in controversy as referee Amy Fearn failed to play advantage and pulled play back to book a Spurs player when Jordan Nobbs had the ball in the net.

“When you talk about other professionals, if you don’t have anything positive to say don’t say anything at all," fired Eidevall.
