Viv Anderson fires strong message to Nottingham Forest after Chris Hughton arrival

Nottingham Forest legend Viv Anderson says the Reds must end the cycle of managerial instability at the City Ground and says patience will bring rewards.

The Reds last week fired Sabri Lamouchi just several months after handing him a new contract and replacing him Chris Hughton.

It is hoped that Hughton can finally lead Forest to the Premier League after they just missed out on a top-six finish last term as they suffered a catastrophic defeat on the final day against Stoke.

Anderson believes the Reds have the "best man available" for the job but urged the club to give him time to succeed.

"This club needs stability," Anderson told the Daily Star.

"We can’t keep bringing in a manager, sack him after a year, get another man in, then sack him too.

GARIBALDI RED: Darren Fletcher on how Nottingham Forest are viewed by the wider footballing world

“You end up not going forward at all – and spending money because every new boss wants his own players and coaching staff.

“Chris is the best man available and, if the’s the case now, that’s the case in a year from now. Every successful football club has a manager there for a long time.

“I played at Manchester United under Alex Ferguson, who was there for 26 years. Cloughie was at Forest a similar length of time and this week Jurgen Klopp just completed five years with Premier League champions, Liverpool.

“There’s no great secret. Longevity and stability are absolutely key to success.”

The Hughton era will get under way once the international break ends with his first assignment being a trip to Blackburn Rovers.

He will be tasked with trying to guide Forest to their first win of the season having lost every game so far.
