Vitor Pereira 'Everton’s first choice' to replace Marco Silva amid Arsenal interest

Vitor Pereira is Everton’s first choice to replace Marco Silva as manager, according to latest reports - while he is also believed to be on Arsenal's shortlist.

Everton are looking for a new manager after Marco Silva was sacked on Thursday following a derby defeat to Liverpool which plunged the Blues into the Premier League relegation zone.

Shanghai SIPG coach Pereira is the club's first choice, according to Sky Sports , who claim the 51-year-old is interested in the role.

But Everton could face competition for his services, as he is on a list of candidates to replace Unai Emery at Arsenal, The Times reports.

Pereira has won two league titles with Porto, the Greek top flight with Olympiacos, and the Chinese Super League with Shanghai SIPG last year.

He has also managed Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia, Fenerbahce and 1860 Munich - but if he landed a job with Everton or Arsenal it would be the first time he has managed in England.

Sky Sports claims the Portuguese coach was considered as David Moyes’ replacement in 2013, when he left Everton for an ill-fated spell as Manchester United boss.

Moyes is also a leading candidate, and informal discussions have been held with the man who enjoyed a successful 10-year reign at Goodison.

Everton have been linked with Manchester City coach Mikel Arteta, and the highly regarded River Plate manager Marcelo Gallardo, while Moshiri has been a long time admirer of the Ajax boss Eric ten Hag.

All three though, would be difficult to bring to Goodison at this time.

Arsenal currently have caretaker manager Freddie Ljungberg in charge, and have also been linked with Arteta as well as Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers, among others.
