A West Lothian charity that has been a lifeline for West Lothian families throughout the pandemic needs public votes to win a prestigious ward.
West Lothian Foodbank has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Charity of the Year category of the Scottish Charity Awards 2021.
And they need people to go online and vote so they can win the coveted title.
Kathleen Neily from the charity explained: “During lockdown the West Lothian Foodbank’s aim was to ensure that no-one in West Lothian went hungry and that no voluntary sector resources were wasted through replication of work.
“The team formed and coordinated the West Lothian Food Network, a partnership of 38 food charities with over 1000 staff/volunteers collectively, working closely with the private and public sector.
“The network has fed an average of 4000 people per week since the start of the pandemic.”
Kathleen continued: “The Covid-19 pandemic has increased food insecurity across Scotland through shielding, furlough, unemployment, rise of domestic abuse and withdrawing of some support services for vulnerable people.
“West Lothian Foodbank created a food network with partners and volunteers from across the community to utilise donated foods, acquire grant monies and save over 100 tonnes of food from going to landfill.”
