Vital Jet2 Spain update could affect thousands of holidaymakers planning to fly today

Jet2 passengers planning to travel to a number of destinations have been warned to stay away from the airport today, as the airline is not running flights to seven popular sunspots.

The Leeds-based airline operates several flights a day from Leeds Bradford Airport, as well as other terminals across the country.

Yesterday, Jet2 announced that it has suspended all flights to mainland Spain immediately after the government imposed a 14-day quarantine for anyone arriving back into the UK from the country. The ban will last until at least August 16.

The cancellations apply to holiday programmes in Costa de Almeria, Alicante, Malaga and Murcia, as well as a number of Spanish islands.

However, they also released more information last night for anyone planning to travel to the Balearic or Canary Islands today (Tuesday).

In a statement, Jet2 said: "Following the latest government advice regarding travel to the Balearic and Canary Islands from the UK, we are advising customers who are due to fly to the following destinations (Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza) not to go to the airport tomorrow (Tuesday 28th July) as we are not operating flights to these destinations.

"This advice also applies to customers traveling to any of our destinations in Mainland Spain.

"This is an extremely fast-moving situation and we will provide a further update in due course."

It is not yet clear whether Jet2 flights to these destinations will run later this week.

The government has imposed a quarantine on people returning from Spain after a huge rise in coronavirus cases in the Mediterranean country.

There are suggestions that the quarantine rule could be lifted for the Balearic or Canary Islands - but a decision on this is not due until later this week.

Jet2 customers who have been affected by the suspension of flights are being advised to contact the airline's customer services team to discuss their options. They can either rebook their holidays without an admin fee, get a full cash refund or obtain credit note refund.
