'Vital gesture' plea as Nottingham Forest gear up for big return

Premier League club close in on Forest man

Wolverhampton Wanderers are close to appointing Nottingham Forest’s head of scouting Simon Hunt, according to reports.

The 57-year-old was appointed at the City Ground in October 2018 but is said to be in “advanced talks” with Premier League Wolves, says Football Insider.

Wanderers boss Nuno Espirito Santo is understood to have been looking for a new recruitment chief since Kevin Thelwell quit in February to join the New York Red Bulls.

A Wolves source has told Football Insider that the club are working out the finer points of a deal with Hunt and he could be appointed imminently, ahead of the crucial summer transfer window.

Forest chairman's £1m plea

Nottingham Forest chairman Nicholas Randall QC has pleaded with supporters to make the “vital” gesture of donating the value of their season tickets back to the club.

Forest have now set out the options for season-card holders to claim refunds with the final five City Ground matches played behind closed doors.

One of those options would see fans put the value of their refund back into the club, with donations going to Forest’s academy.

Randall is urging supporters to make that choice amid the financial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the club’s finances. Forest could pay out more than £1million if every fan asked for a pro-rata refund.

Season ticket refund options for Forest fans

Nottingham Forest have given supporters four options for claiming refunds on their season tickets.

With the remainder of the Championship season to be played behind closed doors, Forest are now offering season-card owners refunds on the value of the five games they will not be able to attend.

Option one does not provide fans with a cash refund but does give them access to iFollow, allowing them to stream all nine remaining regular-season fixtures, including the four away from home. Fans will also get a digital matchday programme for the matches.

All season-card holders, including senior and youth supporters, will receive an iFollow code next week, but only those who select option one will have access, as the others will be deactivated.

Injury warning as Forest return nears

Championship players have not had enough time to properly prepare for the league’s resumption, a former head physiotherapist has said.

When Nottingham Forest kick off at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, June 20, it will have been more than three months since their last competitive fixture.

To prepare, they have had around four weeks of training, which the Owls’ former head physio Paul Smith has said is far from adequate.

He is warning clubs to expect injuries, with the Bundesliga, now heading into the fifth weekend of its comeback, experiencing a spate of muscle problems.
