A West Lothian counselling service for young people has been given a boost with new funding from a local business.
Workflo Solutions from Livingston pledged to support SMILE counselling with a £12,000 donation, spread out at £1000 a month for the next year, to help boost their service.
The Courier reported in August that since opening SMILE in 2015, the charity has been thriving and helping lots of young people in West Lothian.
However, it was becoming close to capacity because of funding issues so this funding will mean more young people can use their free service.
Michael Field, managing director of Workflo Solutions said: “Life has taught me that sometimes we all need a helping hand, and it’s in my nature to help others as I am fortunate enough to be in a position to do so.
“I met Declan Harrigan the founder of SMILE last week and was blown away by the work him and his team do for the young people of West Lothian, so I’m delighted to have donated £12,000 as I know this will mean SMILE can accept new referrals and help even more youngsters. “
SMILE provide a free, accessible service and aim to help young people feel Supported, Motivated, Inspired, and in turn Lead them to self-determination and Empowerment so they feel confident in making their own positive life choices.
The types of issues they help with include suicide, self-harm, abuse survivors, bullying, bereavement and loss, needs, depression and anxiety.
Declan Harrigan, founder and clinical director of SMILE, said: “I have to say that I am still overwhelmed with Michael’s extremely generous donation to SMILE I can’t reflect enough the amazing impact this will have on our children and young people.”
