BENGALURU: Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has introduced special regulations in view of the second year of the pandemic. Apart from exams, the varsity has made special arrangements for internships, which are mandatory for sixth-semester students.
As per the new regulations, the university will delay start of internships and reduce their duration by clubbing them with assignments. Students can opt for internships that will allow them to work virtually. They will also be allowed to join existing projects for internships.
“We have given colleges the liberty to decide how much time they want students to spend on internships depending on their academic schedule. We have delayed the start of internships by one week so that students can complete their academics,” said VC Karisiddappa.
Current intermediate even-semester students (UG and PG) will be assessed on a sum of 50% marks on the basis of CIE (continuous internal evaluation) and 50% on the basis of performance in previous semesters. Those who wish to improve their scores will be given a chance whenever exams are held next. Students will be awarded the best of grades and this won’t be considered an additional attempt.
The university will conduct backlog exams of all UG and PG papers, which will be completed by September and will be in open-choice format.
VTU had taken up a similar initiative last year too. “The move to introduce open-choice format will benefit a lot of students, especially those with backlogs. Last time, many of them failed because they couldn’t attend classes properly due to technical issues,” said Anvith Kateel, student in-charge of National Students Union of India.
All exams of current terminal semesters of UG and PG except subjects involving viva voce will be pen-and-paper exams and be completed by August. The question papers will be in open-choice format and of normal duration. Subjects involving viva voce will be conducted online with both examiners from the same college. Backlog exams of current terminal-semester students will be conducted offline and in open-choice format.
