NELLORE: A visually challenged woman inaugurated the oxygen plant donated by film actor Sonu Sood Foundation in Atmakur of Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh on Friday.

B Nagalakshmi was picked up as chief guest to the programme as she donated her five-month welfare pension of Rs 15,000 to Sood charity foundation a few months ago.

Showering praises on Nagalakshmi, Sonu Sood said she is the richest person on the earth as she could feel the pain of the people though she could not see.

Interestingly, Nagalakshmi decided to donate another Rs 10,000 to Sood foundation and Rs 25,000 to the chief minister’s relief fund (CMRF) from the balance accrued from her monthly pension of Rs 3,000.

This is the first oxygen plant to be set up by Sonu Sood charity foundation in the country.

He promised to take up the construction of oxygen plant in Atmakur government hospital following a request made by district collector KVN Chakradhar Babu about two months ago.

The construction of the plant and setting up of the equipment were completed on war footing basis.

In a video message to the district collector, Sonu Sood thanked the locals and doctors at government hospital in Atmakur for realizing the project within no time.

Industries minister and local legislator Mekapati Gautham Reddy who participated in the programme thanked Sood for his gesture.

He said that the plant was set up with a cost of Rs 1.5 crore.

The minister invited Sood to visit the plant to which the actor agreed to come in another two months.

Mekapati lauded Sood’s decision to set up the plant in remote Atmakur town instead of big cities and towns where better healthcare facilities were available.

He complimented the district collector Chakradhar Babu for taking up the initiative with the actor.

The minister felicitated Nagalakshmi in the presence of locals.

She said that they were proud to felicitate the kind-hearted person Nagalakshmi.
