Visitors to two pubs in Cardigan told to self-isolate

People who visited two Cardigan pubs earlier this month have been urged to self-isolate following fears that potentially hundreds of people have come into contact with coronavirus.

After Ceredigion County Council blamed a local spike in cases in Cardigan on social events at pubs in the town, it identified two pubs which were at the centre of the cluster of cases.

Community transmission in the Cardigan area is believed to be linked to social events at premises in the town, including The Bell and the Red Lion.

The council said there was potential for "hundreds of contacts being affected" and said coronavirus is now spreading in the Ceredigion community. As well as pubs, the butchers, the post office, restaurants and shops have shut after the local Covid surge.

A spokesman for the council said: "If you were a customer who went to either The Bell or Red Lion Cardigan on or after 9 November, you are asked to self-isolate for 14 days from the date you last visited either public house.

"If you are a close contact of someone who visited the premises after 9 November, you must be particularly vigilant and refer yourself for a test if you feel at all unwell.

"This will help stop the coronavirus from spreading. Both premises have now voluntarily closed."

Anyone with symptoms, no matter how small, must follow self-isolation guidance and arrange a test immediately, only leaving home to get tested. No one should go to work or leave the house if they have any symptoms.

Usual Covid-19 symptoms include a high temperature, a new continuous cough, a loss or change to sense of smell or taste. If you have been to one of the above establishments, be vigilant to any other changes in your health and ensure that you book a test if needed.
