VISITORS to a popular beach have been urged to keep out of the water for their safety.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) has contacted East Lothian Council following a water quality sample at Dunbar’s East Beach.
A spokesperson for the local authority told the Courier: “As a precautionary measure, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) have issued advice against bathing at Dunbar East Beach.
“This follows the result of a water quality sample.”
According to Sepa, the bathing water is "at risk of short-term pollution following heavy rainfall".
However, there has not been heavy rain in recent days.
"Bathing is not advised during or 1-2 days after heavy rainfall due to the risk to bathers’ health from water pollution," the organisation states.
"Pollution risks include sewer overflows."
No further information on the cause of any decrease in water quality has been made available.
