A travel ban on people coming into Scotland from two African countries will come into force at 4am tomorrow.
The Scottish Government has said the UK ban on visitors from the southern Africa region remains in place and as of tomorrow morning will be extended to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Tanzania.
Fears over new strains of coronavirus has led to the decision.
Earlier this month the Department for Transport announced the measures against a swathe of countries in southern Africa including mandatory self isolation periods for others.
Only British or Irish people can legally enter the UK under the rules and are expected to stay in quarantine for ten days.
Entry into England has been banned for visitors from Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Eswatini, Zambia, Malawi, Lesotho, Mozambique and Angola – as well as Seychelles and Mauritius
A press release on January 7 read: "The government has responded swiftly to new evidence showing an urgent need to halt travel from all southern African countries to help prevent the spread of a new coronavirus (COVID-19) variant identified in South Africa."
On Monday all country exemptions (sometimes referred to as Travel Corridor) have been suspended until further notice
The Scottish Government tweeted: "The UK travel ban on visitors from the southern Africa region remains in place. From 4am on Friday 22 January the ban has been extended to: Democratic Republic of Congo. Tanzania."
