Visitors flock to Dalkeith Country Park despite coronavirus lockdown rules

Fed up park chiefs have hit-out at covidiots for flocking to a Midlothian beauty spot.

Visitors have been driving to Dalkeith Country Park before parking up and going for a stroll around the grounds.

Their trips to the 1,000-acre site owned by one of Scotland's wealthiest landowners, the Buccleuch family, defy government guidance to exercise locally.

"Sadly this is a result of people not abiding with the lockdown guidelines about exercising in your local area," park bosses tweeted.

Owners were replying to a complaint from a neighbour struggling to park after restrictions were put in place to deter out-of-town visitors.

"Residents at the town gates are struggling to park on a daily basis due to the number of visitors to the country park," he tweeted.

"Would you lift the no-parking cones at the gates to provide more space for everyone please?"

But park bosses ruled out any relaxing of restrictions for fear of encouraging more trips.

"Unfortunately we are not able to lift these as we do not wish to encourage more park visitors. This was on police guidance," they added.

Edinburgh Live told last week how covidiots have been breaking lockdown rules to throw campfire parties in the Pentland Hills.

Rangers patrolling the Edinburgh beauty spot found evidence of gatherings despite the car parks being closed, signs up and barriers down.
