Visiting restrictions in place at Glasgow hospitals to combat coronavirus

Children will no longer be allowed to visit patients on the most acutely unwell wards at Glasgow hospitals in a bid to combat coronavirus.

Health bosses have put restrictions on visits to their most vulnerable patients.

As part of plans to manage the COVID-19 outbreak, only essential visitors will be allowed to visit, such as parents of children or the patient's partner or main carer.

Children will be restricted from visiting unless arranged beforehand with the nurse in charge and visitors may be required to wear personal protective equipment based on local risk assessment.

The rules apply to all patients in Intensive Care Units, High Dependency Units, Emergency Departments, Acute Receiving Units, Initial Assessment Unit, Midwifery Care Areas, Neonatal Units, Haemato-Oncology Units and Renal Units.

A general restriction for all visitors asks that no one visits if they have a fever, respiratory, cough or cold symptoms and all visitors must sanitize when entering and leaving clinical areas.

The strict measures come into force as the number of patients in Glasgow who tested positive for coronavirus doubled to 21.

The new figures released show a steep rise of 11 cases in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area, from 10 yesterday.

Across Scotland, there are 25 new confirmed cases, showing a rise to 85 from 60.

In Lanarkshire, the number of positive diagnoses remains at seven.
