VisionQuest: release date, trailer, cast, plot, and everything else we know about the new Marvel TV show on Disney+

Vision standing against a shelf in VisionQuest.

VisionQuest: key information

- Coming out in mid-October
- First trailer revealed at d23 Expo 2026
- Paul Bettany will star as Vision
- Main supporting cast members confirmed
- Other MCU characters rumored to appear
- Will conclude the tale told in WandaVision and Agatha All Along
- Unclear how it'll impact future MCU projects

VisionQuest is set to bring down two curtains when it makes its Disney+ debut on October 14. Indeed, not only will it be the final Marvel TV show of 2026, but it'll also mark the end of the small-screen trilogy that began with 2021's WandaVision and continued with 2024's Agatha All Along.

With the trippy Marvel sci-fi series' first trailer finally being released publicly in mid-August, the countdown is well and truly on to its release. And, if your interest in the Paul Bettany-led project has been piqued since said teaser was released, you'll want to know more about the forthcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) TV show. So, read on to learn about its confirmed cast, story details, and more besides.

VisionQuest release date

As I mentioned, the last MCU TV production of the year will premiere on Tuesday, October 14. Marvel confirmed VisionQuest 's official launch date in May.

Right now, there's no word on how many episodes it'll contain. Based on Marvel's other live-action offerings for the small screen, though, it could be anywhere between six and nine.

VisionQuest trailer

At long last, VisionQuest's first trailer was released into the wild on August 14 — and it was well worth the wait.

One of six major Marvel and Star Wars reveals at d23 Expo 2026, it teases that the reanimated Vision has not only gone into hiding after WandaVision's finale, but that he's having an identity crisis fuelled by the memories that he received from the Wanda-created version of Vision. Oh, and he'll have to deal with a reimagined version of Ultron, who's technically Vision's father and will once again be played by James Spader, aka the primary member of this show's supporting cast. Speaking of VisionQuest's ensemble...

Full spoilers follow for WandaVision and Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Here's the show's confirmed cast so far:

  • Paul Bettany as Vision
  • James Spader as Ultron
  • James D'Arcy as J.A.R.V.I.S
  • Orla Brady as F.R.I.D.A.Y
  • Emily Hampshire as E.D.I.T.H
  • Henry Lewis as D.U.M.-E
  • Jonathan Sayer as U
  • Ruaridh Mollica as Thomas Shepard
  • Todd Stashwick as TBC
  • T'Nia Miller as TBC
  • Lauren Morais as TBC
  • Diane Morgan as TBC
  • Polly Frame as TBC

Bettany, who's played Vision since the superpowered humanoid's live-action debut in 2014's Avengers: Age of Ultron, hasn't been seen since he played two versions of Vision in WandaVision.

Confused? Let me explain. One was a fabricated version of Vision that a grief-stricken Wanda Maximoff inadvertently created using her powers post-Avengers: Endgame. Meanwhile, the other is a reprogrammed version of the real Vision's soul-less body, which was reanimated by the nefarious government agency known as S.W.O.R.D.

Long story short: WandaVision's finale saw White Vision regain his original memories from the Wanda-created iteration before flying off to whereabouts unknown. It's this version, then, who'll be the show's protagonist.

He won't be the only android, robot, or artificial intelligence that'll appear in this Marvel Phase 6 TV show.

Spader, who played the menacing Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron, will reprise his role as the villainous android despite his death at Vision's hands in said film. He'll be one of many phantasms who'll interact with Vision in VisionQuest.

Meanwhile, Tony Stark's first AI assistant J.A.R.V.I.S, its successor F.R.I.D.A.Y, and E.D.I.T.H — the AI program in the sunglasses Stark posthumously gave to Tom Holland's Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Far From Home — will also feature, and be played by D'Arcy, Brady, and Hampshire. Lewis and Sayer are also set to portray humanized versions of D.U.M-E and U. They helped Stark create his various Iron Man suits in the superhero's solo movie trilogy.

We'll see human forms of F.R.I.D.A.Y, J.A.R.V.I.S, U, and D.U.M-E in VisionQuest (Image credit: Marvel Television/Disney+)

As for Mollica, his character's identity was also revealed via VisionQuest's story synopsis (more on this later).

Morgan and Morais were also confirmed to be part of VisionQuest's cast last October. However, their character names, as well as those of Stashwick, and Miller, haven't been publicly revealed, but speculation is rife about who they could be playing.

Consider this your one and only warning, then: potentially big spoilers follow for VisionQuest. I'm also going to openly discuss full spoilers for Agatha All Along and Doctor Strange 2, too.

Some fans think Thomas Shepard (right) is actually Tommy Maximoff (Image credit: Marvel Television/Disney+)

Per industry leaker DanielRPK (via Reddit), Stashwick is playing Paladin, who'll pursue Vision for his advanced tech. Meanwhile, Deadline has claimed Miller is playing Jocasta. In the comics, she's an android initially built to become Ultron's wife. However, Jocasta rebels against her supervillain status and ends up becoming an ally of The Avengers, so it'll be interesting to eventually see how and why she's involved.

Elsewhere, fans believe Mollica is actually playing one of Wanda and Vision's twin sons in Tommy Maximoff, aka Speed. Based on this show's plot brief (again, more on this shortly), that theory doesn't sound so far-fetched, either. Indeed, Tommy was last seen in WandaVision (albeit as a child) and referenced by Wiccan, aka Billy Maximoff, in Agatha All Along.

Will Billy Maximoff and Agatha Harkness show up in VisionQuest? (Image credit: Marvel Television/Disney Plus)

In fact, Billy's entire story arc in the latter show centered on finding Tommy. As I covered in my Agatha All Along ending explainer, that series ended with Billy — plus Agatha Harkness' ghost in tow — continuing the search for his sibling. It's possible, then, that this duo could appear.

Locke's involvement sounds likely, too. During a chat with fans about Clarkston, a stage play Locke and Mollica are involved in, director Jack Serio let slip that they filmed scenes together for a project where they play brothers (thanks to X/Twitter user sand12345678901 for the revelation). Coincidence? I think not.

VisionQuest won't be a full family reunion without Elizabeth Olsen showing up as Wanda/Scarlet Witch, though, so will she? Wanda seemingly died in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but we didn't see one of the MCU's most powerful beings actually perish, so there's a good chance she's not only alive, but that this show will feature Olsen in some capacity.

VisionQuest story synopsis and speculation

VisionQuest is reportedly set one year after the events of WandaVision (Image credit: Marvel Television/Disney+)

Possible spoilers follow for VisionQuest.

Here's VisionQuest's official plot brief: "Vision, rebooted and having escaped from those who sought to weaponize him, has been in hiding. Searching for new meaning, he consults the AI personas embedded in his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and the infamous Ultron.

"His discreet existence ends when a bounty placed on his head thrusts him on the run with Thomas Shepard, a mysterious boy who may be Vision’s son, reincarnate. As Vision evades capture, he must confront his nature, resist Ultron's influence, and unravel the enigma that is his young companion if he’s to survive."

Speaking to Rotten Tomatoes at New York Comic-Con 2025, Bettany revealed it's set one year after WandaVision. And, during Marvel's panel at the convention, Bettany dropped more hints about its plot.

"What’s different about Vision right now is that Red Vision gave White Vision all of his memories, including the memories from within the Hex," he said (per Marvel.com) "But, White Vision is having real difficulty connecting to them, so he has the memories, but he doesn’t have the emotions and the feelings, and I think that’s what the journey is. White Vision’s journey during the show is about his attempt to connect to those memories and who he was… but with lasers!"

Elaborating on the above to The Playlist, Bettany said: "This is the first time you’re entirely in Vision’s point of view, and you literally get to see what it’s like inside Vision’s mind, which is super fun.

"This show is so weird and out of left field that it was such a pleasure to make. I'm really excited for people to see it. It’s a big swing, and I think that Marvel always gets rewarded when it takes big swings. Terry Matalas, our showrunner, has done an amazing job."

Elsewhere, speaking on the Katie Sackhoff Show, Matalas suggested VisionQuest offers the opportunity to "elevate" MCU canon and/or even course-correct specific characters' journeys. Predictably, Matalas also dodged a question about Wanda's possible appearance and the true identity of Mollica's character.

With Vision struggling to deal with his former self's past in the show's early entries, I wouldn't be shocked if VisionQuest has cherry-picked elements from Tom King's 12-issue Vision comic book series. Whether that includes making his own stand-in family that includes wife Virginia, and teenage twins Viv and Vin, is unclear — but, hey, Marvel has surprised us all before, so I wouldn't rule it out.

How will VisionQuest set up future MCU projects?

Nobody knows what the future holds for Vision or Ultron once this show is over (Image credit: Marvel Television/Disney+)

We don't know. However, with VisionQuest coming out before Avengers: Doomsday, i.e. the final MCU movie of 2026, there's a small chance that Vision could feature in the next Avengers movie.

That said, Bettany wasn't part of the initial 27-strong Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement, nor has he been confirmed to appear since, so he's far more likely to show up in its sequel Avengers: Secret Wars. Speaking to The Telegraph, Bettany, erm, telegraphed he'd have a role in Secret Wars, too, by saying "I think I’ve got some Avengers duties next year."

As for VisionQuest's future, Matalas told The Direct that we "could very much see" some of the series' characters again after the MCU has undergone a soft reboot post-Secret Wars. However, it could also mark the end of Marvel making live-action shows for Disney+, aka one of the world's best streaming services.

Indeed, according to Collider, Marvel will refocus its efforts on big-screen projects for version 2.0 of its cinematic juggernaut. And, while some shows, such as X-Men '97 and Daredevil: Born Again will continue to get new seasons, it sounds increasingly likely that Marvel and Disney aren't prepared to sink money into TV series that aren't seen by tens of millions of people.
