Vision for new luxury apartments on old pub site near Trent Bridge

A fresh image shows how a vast apartment block could transform an old pub and restaurant site near Trent Bridge - from a different perspective.

The 100-apartment scheme in London Road would also include a new two-storey restaurant, cafe and bar.

If approved, it would revamp an old car valeting centre, between Trent Bridge and the city centre.

Arran Bailey, managing director at the ALB Group, said he hoped to deliver "luxury homes and further amenities to the area".

He said: "The new development would improve the aesthetic of a major gateway, and serve to welcome visitors as they approach and travel through the city."

He added the location, which is close to Nottingham Railway Station, was 'ideal' for commuters.

Simon Birch, director at CBP Architects, said: “The design of the scheme respects its location on one of the main routes into the city.

"If plans are approved, it will provide a striking piece of architecture to welcome visitors and commuters along the route."

Construction on the project is due to start in the autumn.

The site used to be occupied by the old Globe pub, once popular with football supporters.

The establishment used to be a meeting place for the Nottingham branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), before it became an Indian restaurant called Jewel, which closed.

Demolition work began in 2019, and, at the time, CAMRA branch secretary Andrew Ludlow said it was frequented by Nottingham Forest and Notts County fans.

"It did have a very impressive reputation for its range of real ales," he said.

"It was certainly one of the places that people headed to sample a range of interesting and, often, quite unusual beers.

"It was always my final port of call before heading off to Meadow Lane."
